A 22-year-old salesman was stabbed and killed aboard a Mumbai local train on Monday night following a dispute over door space in the first-class compartment. The victim has been identified as Mayank Lohar, also known as Mayank Ramesh Lohar, a resident of Virar. The Mayank Lohar Mumbai local train stabbing has prompted police to deploy six dedicated Government Railway Police teams to track down the accused, who fled the scene following the attack.
Lohar worked as a salesman at a Westside store in Andheri. He was 22 years old at the time of his death. On Monday night, after completing his work shift, Lohar boarded the Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train at around 10:42 PM.
According to preliminary information, an argument broke out inside the first-class compartment of the train during the journey. The dispute was over door space. The confrontation escalated, and a man wearing a black shirt allegedly stabbed Lohar in the abdomen.
After carrying out the attack, the accused got off the train at Borivali station and fled from the scene.
Railway Police and the Government Railway Police, commonly referred to as GRP, were alerted after the incident was reported and both forces responded. Lohar was removed from the train and taken to a hospital for treatment. He was declared dead at the hospital at approximately 11:22 PM that night — roughly 40 minutes after he had boarded the train at 10:42 PM.
Six dedicated GRP teams have been formed in the wake of the stabbing and are specifically assigned to trace and arrest the suspect. The accused was last seen wearing a black shirt when he alighted at Borivali station after the attack.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case to date. The police investigation into the stabbing of Mayank Lohar is ongoing.
